The Nutshack is a small cabin on the side of Nicomen Mountain that provides a great view of the Dewdney Valley from both inside the cabin and from the lookout point behind the cabin.
The cabin has a guest book on the table inside, be sure to sign your name! You will also find a table and some chairs inside to relax during your hike.
Outside the cabin is a nice place for a fire that looks over the Dewdney Valley, there is a pail of water that comes from the shack rain gutters, use this to wash your hands or help out the fire if needed.
History:
This Cabin, along with many others in the area, was built by a trail building legend known as Wulf, most known for creating and maintaining local trails like the Raven’s Bluff, Little Nicomen Peak Loop, Harrison Grind, and even the popular Dewdney Grind.
Wulf Pirang is a legend, and the places he created should be respected to the fullest. Please be respectful of this area.
Hiking:
The Little Nicomen Peak Trial is considered a hard 6 km (3.7 miles) hike that starts from Hawkins Pickle Road, the same area the locals call Suicide Creek. The trail will take you up Norrish Creek and up the mountain towards the many lookouts in the area. The full loop will take about 2.5 hours, if you are just aiming for the cabin you can take the loop to the right to start finding it. Good Luck!
Getting There:
Getting there can be done in two ways, take the Little Nicomen Peak trail or take the service road up to the Norrish Glider Launch and hike the small trail at the launch area until you reach the shack.
