Moon Rock is a large oval rock that sits high above the city of Mission, the rock gets its name from its shape and the fact that it looks like it dropped out of the sky and into the resting place where it sits.
When you get to Moon Rock you will find a ladder that will help you get on top of the rock to take in the view and a sign next to the ladder that says its name. The views are stunning over the city and if you go on a clear day you will see as far as Mount Baker, Washinton.
The Hike:
The main hike to the rock is a 3.1 km (1.9 mile) in-and-out trail with great views and scenery of the thick Bear Mountain forest. Dogs are welcome on the trail but be cautious that mountain bikers love this trail also and could be coming down the mountain with some speed.
Another hiking option is the full loop which is a 4.3 km (2.7 mile) in-and-out hike that just extends a bit more up the mountain.
Getting There:
Park on Doyle Street then head up Cranks Trail until you reach Corral Loop Trail where you will need to get onto the old service road, follow the road and take the first right, after this it’s a straight walk to the viewpoint and Moon Rock.
