Harrison Dam is a great place to visit if you like random exploring or rock collecting, the area is beautiful and the Dam during the rainy season is amazing with the high water flow.
The area required a lot of rock demolition during the building process, which left behind so many cool rocks to be found, you will find hunks of quartz and many other rock types in the area if you look hard enough.
The area is active and could be VERY dangerous if the Dam was opened while exploring the rock bed, be careful and pay attention to the area around you at all times.
The area is also under surveillance so be sure to respect the area and leave nothing behind.
The Stats and Information:
Harrison Dam AKA Big Silver Creek is a run-of-river hydroelectric power generating facility with an installed capacity of 40.6 MW (40.6 Million Megawatts) and an average annual production of 139,800 MWh. That’s enough power to power about 50,000 homes year-round.
Construction began in June 2014 and was completed in July 2016.
Getting There:
If you head up Harrison East Forest Service Road you will pass the Dam on your way to Shovel Creek Falls, the Dam is gated and it can easily be missed if you’re not paying attention.

There are also some other great locations nearby, like Harrison Secret Falls and Shovel Creek Falls, both located just after the Dam.
