Grizzly Falls is located in the Nahatlatch Valley, surrounded by scenic mountain peaks and glaciers, old-growth forests, and a unique lake and river system.
With this waterfall flowing all year round, It’s most spectacular in the late spring when there is a lot of water flowing over the rocks and the mist of the falls makes it all the way to the service road.
The drive to Grizzly can feel long but the number of sights you will see on your way will keep you busy. The first lake you will see is a small lake called Frances Lake before getting to Hannah Lake and finally, Nahatlatch Lake, when you reach the final lake you start to gain some elevation and some great picture opportunities.
Nahatlatch Park protects one of the largest intact wetlands remaining in the Lower Mainland. Please pack out your trash and help keep this area clean!
The Stats:
Grizzly Falls towers 276 feet (84 meters) in height and has a max width of 75 feet (23 meters). It also has 4 drop points that span a run of 400 feet (122 meters).
The falls start with the first drop at about 60 degrees before plunging over the last few drops at an 80-degree angle.
Getting there:
Grizzly Falls can be found about 43 km (27 miles) from the start of Nahatlatch Forest Service road. Getting there requires a 4×4 with high clearance as you encounter 3 washouts and 1 rock slide to get there.
After passing the first high bridge you will need to continue to follow the service road down the rapids until you come to the next gated bridge where you will turn right to stay on Nahatlatch Road, continue on this service road for 24 km (17 miles), passing Gnarly Rock along the way, after passing the three lakes you will come to a final bridge, cross the bridge and turn left immediately after, drive just a few more minutes until you reach Grizzly Falls.
Things to do in the area:
Camping – For many campsites, the camping fee is $20 Cdn per party if you encounter a ranger.
Swimming – The water is very cold but also refreshing on a hot day.
Paddling/Kayaking – Great area, but the rapids between the lakes can be very dangerous.
Dirt Biking/Off-Roading – Plenty of service roads in the area provide days worth of exploring.
Hiking – Some hiking in the area, one will take you to Mehatl Creek Falls
Boating – Motorized boats can be offloaded at a few of the service road boat ramps.
Fishing – The lakes do not seem to have any hot spots.
Rafting – Some great river rafting.
