Dewdney Cabin is a memorial cabin built by locals and a popular place for a hike and picnic. The area provides some nice views and the well-built cabin provides some great shelter.
The Memory:
This cabin was built by the people of Dewdney, and was dedicated to the memory of Ben von Hardenberg. Ben was the youngest of six brothers and grew up on the family dairy farm in Dewdney. He had a mischievous sense of humour and a creative talented mind. Ben could take on any job and do it very well. Ben pursued a passionate career as a helicopter pilot for twelve years. Tragically, he lost his life in a crash while fighting forest fires on August 17, 2003. He was a much loved son, brother, husband and good friend. Ben was 33 years old.
The Hike:
The Dewdney Grind is a 9.5 km (5.9 mile) hike that is generally considered a challenging route, the hike takes about 5 hours to complete and will have 2,952 foot (900-meter) elevation gain with an average 40% grade.
Getting There:
Getting there is mostly only possible using the hiking trail, during some weekdays there is a gate that can be found open that also gets locked each night. You will be able to hike or dirtbike from the gate if you prefer an easier way to the cabin.
