Day Dawn Adit is a great location to stop at when travelling up the popular East Harrison Service Road, the area is filled with plenty of things to see but this one is often missed as it can be difficult to find.
The long shaft provides some cool formations to see on the walls as you walk to the end, at the end of the tunnel you will find lots of random business cards as it seems to be the thing to do here. If you pay enough attention you will find the quartz vein talked about in the history below.
History:
The Day Dawn Adit is a large mine Adit that was cut in the early 1900s, inside the 162-foot (49 metre) shaft there are wooden tracks that line the entire tunnel and a 3.2 ft (1 metre) quarts vein in the center of the shaft. The quartz vein contains 3.5 parts per million gold and trace silver.
The mine is said to have just been one of many in the area in hopes of finding a larger quartz vein filled with gold, miners have discovered other quartz veins in the area spanning up to 17 ft (5 meters) wide.
The name comes from the original report calling it the Day Dawn Mineral Claim.
Getting There:
The Adit can be found about 40 km (25 Miles) from Harrison Hot Springs up the Harrison East Forest Service Road. The Adit is not easy to find, you will need to pay attention to the right shoulder of the road for the entrance, Happy Hunting!
