Nestled within the lush expanse of Sumas Mountain Regional Park, Chadsey Lake – also known as Lost Lake is a serene alpine destination offering a rewarding escape for hikers, nature lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The lake is fed by Chadsey Creek, named in 1939 after pioneer William Harvey Chadsey, a local farmer whose family helped settle the area in the late 19th century.
Sumas Mountain Regional Park encompasses 1,471 hectares and offers various recreational activities, including hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.
Please check the trail markers on your hike, as some of the trails are designated for mountain bikes only.
The Hike:
There is two main options for hiking to Chadsey Lake:
The longer trail is the main trail from the lower road, this 10.8 km (6.7 mile) out-and-back trail has a total elevation gain of 2,313 feet (705 meters), It’s considered a challenging route that takes approximately 4.5 hours to complete.
The easier hike is from the upper parking lot, this 4.3 km (2.7 mile) out-and-back trail has a total elevation gain of 777 feet (237 meters), it’s considered a moderate route that takes approximately 2 hours to complete.
Bonus Hike is the hike to the Sumas Lookout, it is an extension of the normal trail and adds about 4.4 kms (2.7 miles) out and back to the total hike.
Getting There:
The shorter hike and the main area to park is the upper parking lot. For hikers looking for a longer hike, the parking location is on the side of Sumas Mountain Road.
